Graduate Program

The Biological Sciences Department offers programs leading to a Master's of Science and Master's of Arts degrees in Biology. Both programs provide graduate students with a broad background in the biological sciences that serves as good preparation for employment in industry, civil service, many types of biological work that require advanced training beyond the bachelor's degree, teaching at the elementary, secondary and community college levels, independent research, and continued graduate work at other institutions.

The M.S. degree is based on a research thesis focus while the M.A. degree allows for more coursework and an independent project. Full-time students can complete the M.S. or M.A. degree requirements in two years. On average about 25 students are on campus involved in study and research. An additional 15 students continue their thesis research or other aspects of their degree program off-campus.

Upon completion of the program our students enroll in Ph.D. programs or allied health profession programs at other universities or enter careers in teaching, industry, or with governmental agencies.
